This home in Van Nuys had an attic full of old blown in cellulose insulation. The entire attic was a mess with debris mixed into the cellulose. We removed the blown in cellulose insulation with an industrial vacuum, and any debris that was too big for the vacuum was hand-bagged and removed. Debris, like the wood picture in this attic, is commonly found in attics as a result of wind damage and rodents compromising the roof.  Finding debris like this is often a telltale sign that the attic also needs air leak sealing. After the old insulation and debris was removed, any openings in the attic were sealed with spray foam.

Following air leak sealing, the attic was decontaminated and treated with a deodorizing spray. The job was finished by a full install of Owens Corning batts insulation. Van Nuys homes should have at least R-30 insulation, we installed R-38 for good measure. Now this attic is clean, sealed off from drafts, and energy efficient
